X-Men Origins: Wolverine [May. 2nd, 2009|07:31 am]
[Tags|, , ]

I saw Wolverine yesterday and I was very entertained. No, it's no Dark Knight - but it doesn't have to be. Instead, it's got a plot, a rhythm (I wasn't bored once, and there was just enough action not to confuse), and surprisingly superior acting.

I also have a new person to keep an eye on. Taylor Kitsch was so lovely as Gambit that I may need an icon or three (and a browse through Wolverine/Gambit fanfic in a month or so). Daredevil, smart, trying to be badass but ending up doing the right thing - that's my Remy ♥

I was also impressed at how, for superhero action fare, the movie handled diversity without it being an in-your-face politically correct littany. I was especially wary of how it would treat the single prominent female character, but they got the perfect combination of not making her an unnecessarily badass action heroine and giving her her own agency. For better or worse, Silverfox was in control there.

(And there are baby X-Men. Who I need to watch on slow-motion and identify, because the only one I got 100% was Pietro Maximoff.)

So yes, the kind of superhero movie you can go watch and be entertained by, very like X-Men and X2. [info]bwinter seal of approval ;)

For [info]ciciaye: Angel the Series, 100 words

Vanity Varnish )

For [info]elefwin: Star Wars, 130 words

For [info]alice_montrose: Roses for Lucifer, 160 words

Bonus question: Can someone give me an Elisabeth idea, preferably something featuring Sisi herself with a side of Death? She wants fic, I'm fresh out of bunnies.

Meh again [May. 27th, 2006|02:07 pm]

[Mood | meh]
[Music |Taniec Wampirów - Modlitwa]

I did see X-Men: The Last Stand, but it left me surprisingly meh. Lovely acting, but the script could use work and the directing definitely could - there just wasn't the magic of the last two movies. Respectable amounts of slashiness though. Charles/Erik 4EVA.

Today's the first day of chilly sun after three days of chilly rain. And I can't decide whether to cut my nails today to help in typing the thesis, or keep them vampire-long until tomorrow's album promo event.

Drabbles: Vampires and Star Wars/Batman Begins [Apr. 16th, 2006|09:34 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , , ]
[Mood | creative]

The last batch of the request drabbles from two weeks ago, though [info]fyrie's turned into something much closer to a full story. I still owe Van Helsing to two people, and am still working on it. Incidentally, it's not that I haven't been writing fiction lately: I have, but it's a long Tanz der Vampire series that will need to be posted (and read) in order, and is still missing the first two installments.

For [info]azarias: Bruce Wayne as a Jedi Sith apprentice. Part of the Will to Act verse.

Truth and the Bat, 200 words )

For [info]fyrie, Viktor from Underworld meets Draculea. Incidentally, apart from another drabble where Draculea muscled in while it was supposed to be VH!Vlad, this is the first formal posted outing of Draculea, also known as my historical!vampire!Dracula.

For all the Sultan's gold, 670 words )

Drabbles: Non-vampire, non-Coldfire [Apr. 2nd, 2006|12:48 am]
[Tags|, , , , ]
[Mood | amused]

*looks at the last post and its 100+ comments, of which most aren't between myself and [info]fyrie* I do write other things than vampires and Coldfire, you know. Alas, these are the weakest ones of today's batch...

Sandman, Death and Destruction )

OUATIM, Lorenzo and a stuffed toy )

BTW, drabble requests still open, with modifications. Namely, no vampires except maybe Underworld, and no Coldfire :P C'mon, people - Star Wars? Batman Begins? Tolkien? Anyone? Bueller?

Drabbles and blatherings [Mar. 8th, 2006|09:04 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , , ]
[Mood | amused]

Look! [info]fyrie drew brilliant fanart for my Krolock and Lestat fic! Go and marvel and tell her how good she is!

And since I'm almost finished with the fake-title meme (and the two bits that are yet to be written will get their own post), here are the best bits from that and the blather-about-characters meme, the ones I want to put on my site sometime:

The Dark River: Obi-Wan and Dooku )

Von Krolock and Dracula )

Sirius meta )

Dream and Thessaly, from The Sandman )

In other news, I managed somehow to sign up for a multi-fandom Dracula essay for [info]idol_reflection. Due May 3rd, and for source material I'll probably use Prince of Many Faces and Dracula: The Dark Prince for historical Vlad, Bram Stoker, Murnau's Nosferatu if I can get it (Herzog's if I can't), Dracula 2000 as an example of a BAD vampire movie, Van Helsing and The Historian. Anything else you think I should include in my ravings on why Dracula freaking rocks?

[Mood | satisfied]

The second batch of St Nick’s request not-really-drabbles. 480 words about Hob Gadling for [info]xwingace, 658 words about Sirius Black’s mother of all people for [info]amamiyarin. Next up: vampires and more vampires, because I still have to polish up [info]arabwel’s vignette.

Requested drabbles, part 1 (OUATIM, Batman Begins, Star Wars) [Dec. 6th, 2005|09:36 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , ]
[Mood | annoyed]

Just three so far, alas. To my defense, work absolutely pwn3d me today just after I wrote the last post - I ended up staying way longer than regular work hours and I still have a busload to do tomorrow. On the upside, I also have tickets for the 18th for my next dose of fanged crack, so yay. Said crack has also inspired drabbles #2 and #3, because I'm on a permanent vampire high here. Both titles from "Vor dem Schloss/Wohl der Nacht/Wohl dem Mann", the last song in act 1.

Bruce and Ducard, and giving in )

FIC: Mirror-night (Sin City, R for themes) [Oct. 31st, 2005|06:58 pm]
[Tags|, , ]
[Mood | uncomfortable]

In honour of Halloween, I have the Sin City characters in drag. This is a belated response to a bunny from [info]guede_mazaka. I had some trouble with it, and it's still more of a sketch or snapshot than an actual story.

For those who care: I do have a NaNo villain now. Yay me.

Fandom: Sin City
Summary: A night in the middle of A Dame to Kill For, in a world where things are just that little bit different.
Note: [info]guede_mazaka's fault.
Rating: R for mature themes

Drabble: Fall | Flight (Batman, PG) [Sep. 22nd, 2005|10:59 am]
[Tags|, , ]
[Mood | creative]

A momentary breather (actually, the day's shaping up better than I thought, and project!boss praised me just now), and a request drabble from too long ago. For [info]kyrre: Bruce/Ducard, demons. 100 words, about 10 minutes tops.

FALL|FLIGHT

In the night, the mountains are silent. The campfire ricochets off the glaciers like neon and halogens at the entrance of Muder Alley. "I do not believe in demons."

Ducard’s fingers wrap around Bruce’s wrist before checking his grip on the rope. They’re close enough to hear each other’s heartbeat. "You should. You’re becoming one."

Bruce steps off the ledge into darkness. The rope is a whip, a command, finding purchase where there should be none. In the instant before gravity and legend grip him, a thought flashes through his head.

He can’t be a demon.

Demons fall.

Bat recs [Aug. 29th, 2005|07:33 am]
[Tags|, , ]
[Mood | sleepy]

I have to be in the office in an hour, but there's time enough for a quick rec or two. Batman Begins, [info]walksbyherself, two short stories with a fresh charm to them, and a tired, feeling Ducard that's the human, not the legend. Full of other little touches, too, like a glimpse into the man we first meet as Ra's Al Ghul.

Bruce Wayne: A portrait of the Batman as a young man [Aug. 5th, 2005|05:07 pm]
[Tags|, , , ]
[Mood | bored]

I’ve been thinking – and yes, this is more Bat-meta, just because I missed everyone else’s due to the film not being out yet. Anyway.

It’s the perennial question of book vs movie canon. In this case, it’s a big characterization difference between the two, and in the main character at that.

How to tell two Bats apart )

In other news, a list I’m on has been discussing Myers-Briggs personality types. I’ve done the full test long ago, and I’m a picture-perfect ENTP. Q, Bugs Bunny, Garfield – take your pick. Go me.

Summary of today: paycheck yay. Boss back, also yay. Workload, NOT yay. I barely found the time to finish this.

Fandom: Batman Begins
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: Bob Kane, DC, Christopher Nolan. I am none of these people.

Summary: In the world of the movie, where are the familiar faces? What's going on behind the curtain, in the wings, beyond the stage? Seven drabbles, requiring varying levels of Bat-canon knowledge.

[FIC] Memory(FeelIt)Now (Batman Begins, PG) [Jul. 27th, 2005|08:08 pm]
[Tags|, , ]
[Mood | frustrated]

I meant to sit on this fic longer, but Ducard was having none of it. And BatmanBegins!Bruce is too whipped puppyish in a crazy obsessive way to resist. For what it's worth, the fic kicked my arse three ways from Sunday: I giggled at work, lost my thread of thought completely a dozen times and bothered everyone with coming up with a five-letter word for "touch" that'd start with S, because I pick strange moments to be a perfectionist.

Everything belongs to DC Comics, Christopher Nolan, and is Christian Bale's and Liam Neeson's fault for being too good actors.

Summary: Bruce takes Ducard's advice to pay attention to his surroundings literally. Could be Bruce/Ducard UST if you squint. 1440 words.

Story Synopsis: Answer to the Matrix crossover challenge. Nightwing in a digital world remains himself.

SPOILERS: Information revealed in Matrix: Reloaded, but not the exact events, since the timeline's pre-Reloaded.

Disclaimer: Nightwing, the man who was the boy who was Robin, belongs to DC Comics, Bob Kane and whoever. The Matrix, which is not a revelation but a nice world with an impressive gallery of characters, belongs to the Wachowski Brothers, WB and whoever. I only tied them together.
